TATOA Presents Issues to the Prime Minister

The Chairperson of TATOA Ms Angelina Ngalula last week attended a meeting between the Prime Minister Mr. Majaliwa Kassim Majaliwa and various stakeholders of the Tanzania’s private sector. A number of issues pertinent to TATOA were discussed and deliberated upon. These are issues that touch on the operations of our members on a daily basis especially those which pose as challenges to our businesses.

Speaking at the meeting, Ms Ngalula touched on the issue of the charging of Value Added Tax (VAT) on transit goods ancillary services, an issue that has impact on the  cost of doing business for Tanzanian transporters considerably. Also discussed at the meeting was the problems pertaining to the Single Customs Territory especially relating to the Democratic Republic of Congo. Moreover issues of delays at the borders;  lack of parking space for trucks near the port and at various stops in towns along the transit roads were discussed. Also discussed was the issue of single lanes at the border crossings causing congestion of vehicles leading to truck queues lasting longer periods of time.

The Prime Minister has sent issues raised to respective sector Ministers and promised to convene another meeting shortly where the respective ministers will be in attendance and respond to the issues raised.

Members will be kept informed of the development.
